The State of Our Health Care
Lofa County had fewer public and private hospitals and clinics before the civil war. Tellewoyan Memorial Hospital in Voinjama, Lofa’s capital, was one of the country’s premier public healthcare facilities. This medical center was a primary and secondary referral center for surrounding medical practices. Tellewoyan Hospital subtly stepped aside to make way for Kolahun Health Center due to the latter’s superior availability of medical professionals. But the terrible 14-year civil war wiped out all of those gains.
There is a severe dearth of medical personnel, insufficient available beds, antiquated medical and surgical equipment, and inefficient record-keeping at all of Lofa’s hospitals, including Kolahun Health Center.
AGLA urges you to do everything you can to aid in the recovery of the devastated Gbandi land. Donations of the following things would be much appreciated: Bandages, canes, antibiotics, vaccines, surgical instruments, dental materials, laboratory apparatus, first aid kits, wheelchairs, and maternity supplies.
